The LORD Is Near to All Who Call upon Him in Truth, and He Watch Over All Who Love Him (Psalm 145)
“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also hear their cry for help and save them.
The LORD watches over all who love Him,
But He will destroy all the wicked.”
(Psalm 145:18–20, NASB 2020)
If a person lives in
such a way that the heavenly Father, the true God, is unwilling to draw near to him, then that life will be a tragedy.
At the beginning of this psalm, it speaks of “blessing God every day” and “praising Him forever and ever.” This leads us to examine ourselves: Do I praise God every day? Do I pay attention to this every day?
We do not forget our three daily meals, but do we remember to praise God?
We are less likely to forget giving thanks, because when something worthy of thanks happens, a person with spiritual sensitivity will naturally say- Thanks be to God. But when "there is nothing special happening", do we still know how to praise God and bless His name?
In this final psalm of David, we are taught how to praise and bless God, because this is the key to God’s willingness to draw near to a person.
“On the glorious splendor of Your majesty
And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
People will speak of the power of Your awesome acts,
And I will tell of Your greatness.”
(Psalm 145:5–6, NASB 2020)
I thank God that He allowed me to receive scientific education, so that I may have a broader perspective than many others to see the mysteries of God’s creation.
I am usually someone who likes to sit quietly and think. Whenever I think about the greatness of God’s works, I cannot help but praise Him right then and there.
I remember that near the end of 2024, the General Assembly’s Publications Department asked me whether I could still continue writing my monthly column for the Holy Spirit Monthly. At that time, I had already written more than forty articles. I replied honestly, “I think it may be time to wrap it up. I probably won’t be able to write much more.” I even planned to open another column that would simply contain Bible reading reflections, to continue serving in writing.
Unexpectedly, that very night during prayer, God once again gave me an article. I also deeply sensed the limitless power of the Holy Spirit, urging me to continue writing.
“The one who has accepted His testimony has certified that God is true.
For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God;
for He gives the Spirit without measure.”
(John 3:33–34, NASB 2020)
Yes! “He gives the Spirit without measure.”
Even now, in 2026, the articles God gives me still flow without end.
Why is God willing to love and cherish a certain person so deeply, just as He cherished King David? David said:
“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
To all who call upon Him in truth.
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also hear their cry for help and save them.”
(Psalm 145:18–19, NASB 2020)
By now, we have read dozens of psalms from David’s heart. We know how sincerely he feared the true God, and how he became one whom God acknowledged as a person who truly loved Him.
David was a man so beloved and so near to the great God who created heaven and earth, the God who touches the mountains and they smoke,that God always listened to his cries.
We should follow in his footsteps and become people whom God is willing to draw near to as well.
Late at night, in quiet prayer, I often ask,
“God, am I lovable? If there is anything in me that is still unlovable, please teach me. I want to seriously learn Your word. Every word and every sentence, I want to keep carefully in my heart.”
Amen!
“My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD,
And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.”
