Commit your works to the Lord guarantees a 100% chance of success (Proverbs 16)
“Commit your works to the Lord, And your plans will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3 NASB2020)
Disappointments encompasses 80-90% of one’s life. This "80-90%" is probability. Because of probability, success is only one of the possible options; it may succeed, or it may fail. Probability makes people prone to anxiety and uncertainty, teetering on the edge of hope and despair. Many cases of depression arise from this, because life feels full of pessimism and uncertainty.
There is a very interesting law in physics called the "Uncertainty Principle", which reveals an inevitable natural destiny: "You never know the true outcome (the truth)." In other words, "truth" can never be discovered through measurement.
In fact, truth is in God's hands; God is truth.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NASB2020)
What is truth? Truth is a definite, unchanging answer. Although Einstein did not acknowledge the existence of God, he cared about the “unchanging nature of truth.” Hence his famous saying, “God does not play dice.” The “God” here, of course, does not refer to a God Himself, but rather to this natural law, which is interesting because of the complete immutability of truth. In fact, in the hands of the true God, there is only one truth and certain to be fulfilled; there is no question of probability.
Therefore, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Because in God's hands, truth will certainly be fulfilled, as long as what has been done is in accordance with His promise, like a mathematical equation: if the numbers on the left side of the equation are correct, the answer on the right side will be the expected answer. No one would question mathematics, because mathematics, in a sense, is something that never changes; one is one, two is two, and “one” will never be some uncertain number.
If that's the case, why is there so much uncertainty in the world? The answer lies in the human heart. Unbelief, randomly adding onto, or deciding not to fully follow biblical truth naturally lead to changes in the outcome. Sometimes success is achieved by chance, and sometimes failure is.
To achieve the desired result, there must be no impurities that contradict God's will; only what God desires must be put into the equation. The method mentioned in this verse is to "commit your works to the Lord." "Commitment" means reporting to God through prayer of faith, then doing what God asks us to do with complete faith, and then waiting to receive the promised results.
Just as when the Israelites faced the secure city of Jericho, God's command was to "conquer it," but how? God told them to simply circle the city, and they obeyed; He taught them the method of circling, and they did it; Finally, they shouted loudly, and they shouted. Then Jericho fell. This impossible thing happened, absolutely not due to chance, but because it was "destined."
So, “When a person’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He causes even his enemies to make peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7NASB2020) isn't that amazing? And “One who pays attention to the word will find good, And blessed is one who trusts in the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:20 NASB2020)
So, do we not know what tomorrow will bring? Does uncertainty make us anxious and worried? Just commit it to God. Although the success of everything in the world is subject to chance (by casting lots), chance is in God's hands, and God will accomplish it according to His will. The important thing is whether we have put what pleases Him into God's equation —that is, committing it to God and completely obeying His commands.
“The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.” (Proverbs 16:33 NASB2020)
