God Has Plans Formed Long Ago (Isaiah 25)

May 17, 2026

O LORD, You are my God;

I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;

For You have worked wonders,

Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness. (Isaiah 25:1, NASB2020)

When reading this verse, I cannot help but think of God’s promise to Abraham:

The LORD said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do, since Abraham will certainly become a great and mighty nation, and in him all the nations of the earth will be blessed?” (Genesis 18:17–18, NASB2020)

This was what God had “purposed long ago” for Abraham. It was one of the important promises within God’s many plans. What is especially remarkable about this promise is that it points to the promise concerning the true church in the last days:

For you are all sons and daughters of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise. (Galatians 3:26–29, NASB2020)

Who, then, are “Abraham’s descendants” and those who are “heirs according to promise”? They are those who have “been baptized into Christ”, those who accept baptism according to the teaching of the Bible: baptism in living water, in the name of the Lord Jesus, by full immersion, with the Holy Spirit as witness. This refers to the baptism received in the True Jesus Church. Therefore, what God “purposed long ago” concerning Abraham is the promise that the True Jesus Church would become a great nation.

Therefore, in the prophecy of Isaiah written more than 2,600 years ago, the prophet saw God’s salvation in the last days across time itself. Like the repeated phrase “in that day” found throughout these chapters, it not only means that when the time comes, God will fulfill all that He has promised, but also points to the “last days.” Because Isaiah saw this, he lifted up a voice of praise:

“O LORD, You are my God;

I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name;

For You have worked wonders,

Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.”

The following is a prophecy about the True Jesus Church:

1. There Is Truth

“And on this mountain the LORD of armies will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples;

A banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow,

And refined, aged wine.” (Isaiah 25:6, NASB 2020)

“On this mountain” refers to “Mount Zion,” and also points to the true church in the last days. Only in the true church is there pure truth, as delicious as “choice pieces with marrow” and “refined, aged wine.”

2. Mysteries Are Revealed

“And on this mountain He will destroy the covering which is over all peoples,

And the veil which is stretched over all nations.” (Isaiah 25:7, NASB 2020)

“The covering” and “the veil” refer to the barriers that once kept people from understanding the truth. God will “destroy” them. As it is written:

“Therefore, having such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech, and are not like Moses, who used to put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel would not look intently at the end of what was fading away. But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts; but whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (2 Corinthians 3:12–16, NASB 2020)

Only in the true church, through the help of the Holy Spirit, can the truths of the Bible, which even theological scholars and experts in the original languages cannot understand—be clearly revealed because God "removes" the barriers. Therefore, anyone who is willing to humbly seek God in the true church can easily understand the true way, and all can speak clearly of the word of God. For it is also written:

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.” (John 14:26, NASB 2020)

3. God Is With Us

“He has swallowed up death for all time,

And the Lord GOD will wipe tears away from all faces,

And He will remove the disgrace of His people from all the earth;

For the LORD has spoken.

And it will be said on that day,

‘Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us.

This is the LORD for whom we have waited;

Let’s rejoice and be glad in His salvation.’” (Isaiah 25:8–9, NASB 2020)

This means that only by entering the true church can one enjoy the grace of the true God who “will wipe tears away from all faces.” At that time, the true disciples in the true church will lift up their voices in praise for God’s grace and blessings, and from their hearts proclaim the gospel.

4. God Reigns

“For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain,

And Moab will be trampled down in his place

As straw is trampled down in the water of a manure pile.” (Isaiah 25:10, NASB 2020) The hand of the LORD “will rest on this mountain,” that is, God’s mountain, Mount Zion, God’s true church. Only here is the presence of God, and God will reveal His righteousness and lovingkindness.

“Moab” here refers to antichrists, namely the heresies and groups opposing God’s workers within the true church in the last days. On that day, they will all be destroyed by God, just as straw is trampled into the water of a manure pile.

Thanks be to the Lord! Reading this passage, “the Revelation within Isaiah,” reminds us that God will surely accomplish the purpose He determined long ago. Thinking of this fills me with joy. From now on, when facing any antichrist forces within the church, if after self-examination I have not gone against God’s truth, and if I stand on God’s side, then God will surely be with us. What then do I have to fear?

“The Lord GOD helps Me,

Therefore, I have not been humiliated;

Therefore, I have set My face like flint,

And I know that I will not be ashamed.

He who vindicates Me is near;

Who will contend with Me?

Let us stand up to each other.

Who has a case against Me?

Let him approach Me.

Behold, the Lord GOD helps Me;

Who is he who condemns Me?

Behold, they will all wear out like a garment;

The moth will eat them.” (Isaiah 50:7–9, NASB 2020)
