To Regard The Fear of The Lord as one's Treasure (Isaiah 33)
May 25, 2026
“The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. And He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; The fear of the Lord is his treasure.” (Isaiah 33:5-6 NASB2020)
Zion and Jerusalem are often seen as prefigurations of the church in the Bible. Here it says that God has filled Zion with justice and righteousness, which is the True Jesus Church. On the other hands, what mentality should we have when we enter the true church of salvation today, a church filled with God's justice and righteousness? Having a determination of " The fear of the Lord is his treasure” What are the benefits of doing so? It is: “He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge”
Although I haven't fully achieved the biblical ideal of treasuring Jesus Christ, simply striving towards this goal has given me a rich life. God is true! Not a single word of His will fail! Looking back over the past ten, twenty years, I have never refused the work God entrusted to me, striving to build a family altar and persisting in daily Bible reading. Now, God's blessings in my home truly overflow: my children are willing to uphold this faith, and thus, blessed by God, they have completed their studies, have stable jobs, and humbly serve in the church. The whole family serves, and we continue to grow in the Lord's love. My home seems to confirm the promise, "The fear of the Lord is his treasure," because my home is blessed by God and truly “He will be the stability of your times, A wealth of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge” Amen!
Paul also considered Christ a surpassing value throughout his life, practicing by first counting all things as mere rubbish.
“But whatever things were gain to me, these things I have counted as loss because of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them mere rubbish, so that I may gain Christ,” (Philippians 3:7-8 NASB2020)
For one cannot say, "I will love the Lord," and also, "I will love the world," nor can one serve two masters. The Lord says:
““No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” (Matthew 6:24 NASB2020)
Since it is called "treasure," it is a unique and supreme love of one's heart, meaning that no other love can surpass the love for Him. Moreover, because it is the most precious treasure, one will deeply fear losing it due to certain factors. Therefore, all factors that affect possessing the most precious treasure should be eliminated! Paul says:
“For the desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, in order to keep you from doing whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.” (Galatians 5:17-18 NASB2020)
The desire of the flesh is against the Spirit, who is the most precious Spirit of God. Since they are adversaries, it's a matter of "either he or I," an irreconcilable conflict! Therefore, if one desires to keep its lust, there is no God, and the most precious treasure will depart from us. To obtain the most precious treasure, lust is the first thing that should be put to death.
The ancient saint Job also considered God his most precious treasure:
““And what is the portion of God from above, Or the inheritance of the Almighty from on high? “Is it not disaster to the criminal, And misfortune to those who practice injustice? “Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps?” (Job 31:2-4 NASB2020)
Because Job considered the fear of the Lord God his most precious treasure, he was concerned about anything that would cause this treasure to depart. Therefore, he made a covenant with himself, vowing never to commit anything that would lead to the departure of this precious treasure. First:
““I have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I look at a virgin?” (Job 31:1 NASB2020)
This is followed by a series of "Have I," such as:
“Have I rejoiced at the misfortune of my enemy, Or become excited when evil found him?” (Job 31:29 NASB2020)
When I reread Job chapter 31 and examined myself using Job's "Have I…”, I felt deeply ashamed! We always say we "value the fear of the Lord as our treasure," but how much of the covenant in Job 31 have I truly lived up to? Alas!
“Sinners in Zion are terrified; Trembling has seized the godless. “Who among us can live with the consuming fire? Who among us can live with everlasting burning?”” (Isaiah 33:14 NASB2020)
In Zion, in the True Jesus Church, "the sinners are terrified; trembling has seized the godless." Yes! We must not continue to be sinners, nor continue to be ungodly, for our church has God, who is the consuming fire. Know that to dwell with the everlasting burning fire, one must be true gold, for only then can one withstand the refining fire.
Those who value the fear of the true God above all else will find joy in fear! Because of fear, they will fully obey God's commands, knowing how not to let the loving God depart from them. Therefore, they must love the truth and thoroughly study it in order to fully obey God's will and dwell with Him forever.
“One who walks righteously and speaks with integrity, One who rejects unjust gain And shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; One who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed And shuts his eyes from looking at evil; He will dwell on the heights, His refuge will be the impregnable rock; His bread will be given him, His water will be sure. Your eyes will see the King in His beauty; They will see a distant land.” (Isaiah 33:15-17 NASB2020)
