I Have Inscribed You on the Palms of My Hands; Your Walls Are Continually Before Me (Isaiah 49)
June 10, 2026
But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me,
And the Lord has forgotten me.”
“Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:14–16, NASB)
God will never forsake those who belong to Him; only people may forsake Him. Here Zion said within herself, “The LORD has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.” In fact, this is also a feeling many of God’s people often experience, because man tends to judge God’s love according to his own feelings.
Yet, just as God called Himself “a God who hides Himself” in Isaiah 45, God hides Himself in order to compel those who rebel against Him to turn back to Him. Once they return to Him, He immediately reveals Himself again.
As this chapter says, God asks us to make a natural observation: can a mother forget her nursing child? Can a mother fail to have compassion on the son she has born? Such a thing is almost impossible. God says:
“Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.”
Not only so, God has even inscribed my name upon the palms of His hands:
“I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.”
My God also says:
“Your walls are continually before Me.”
When Satan accused God’s servant Job, he spoke a remarkable facts:
Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.” (Job 1:9–10, NASB 2020)
Here Satan carefully described God’s deep love toward those who belong to Him, and this made him extremely angry. He protested that God had placed a hedge around His people, protecting them with great care — including the person himself, his household, and all that he possessed. Not only that, but the work of his hands was blessed by God, and his possessions increased in the land. These verses list five kinds of blessings a person may possess during his lifetime, all within the protection and blessing of God.
This is truly what it means:
“Your walls are continually before Me.” It is almost as if God has installed a monitor around my home, leaving Satan no opportunity even to come near, much less to harm one who belongs to God.
Zion often refers to the True Jesus Church in the last days. The church may at times become weak, and may even think, “God does not want me anymore.” How painful those words must sound in the ears of our heavenly Father! How could God not want us? As long as we are willing to do what pleases Him, He will accept us and immediately save us.
This is what the LORD says:
“At a favorable time I have answered You,
And on a day of salvation I have helped You;
And I will keep You and give You for a covenant of the people,To restore the land, to make them inherit the desolate heritages.” (Isaiah 49:8, NASB 2020)
But when is the favorable time? When is the day of salvation? It is now. For Paul the Apostle said:
And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain— for He says,
“At a favorable time I listened to you,
And on a day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the favorable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:1–2, NASB)
How blessed we are! Human history has not always been a time of acceptance and salvation. For example, from the end of the apostolic church until the establishment of the True Jesus Church (about from AD 100 to around 1900, nearly eighteen hundred years), even if people desired to seek God, they could not find Him. During that period, spiritual gifts ceased, and the earth became spiritually dry. In that age, no one could attain salvation.
Thanks be to the Lord! We are living in a time of acceptance and salvation. Therefore, we should quickly do what pleases God, because even this period will one day come to an end, when the thousand-year reign with Christ is completed. At that time, the door of salvation will once again be closed, preparing for the Lord’s return.
Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. This is the first resurrection. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. When the thousand years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison. (Revelation 20:4–7, NASB 2020)
